What is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift, also known as a platysmaplasty or cervicoplasty, is a surgical procedure that can help reverse the visible signs of aging in the jawline and neck. A neck lift rejuvenates the neck by tightening the skin and underlying muscles and redefining the contour of the jawline. This procedure is often performed along with liposuction or a facelift but may also be done as a stand-alone procedure.

Neck Lift Procedure
A neck lift can be performed in a variety of ways, depending on how much correction is needed. If you have good skin quality and only need fat removal, liposuction of the neck may satisfactorily contour your neck.
For those patients with extensive signs of an aging neck, a more extensive procedure will be required. In these cases, incisions will be made under the chin and/or around the ears. This will allow Doctor Petrungaro to tighten the muscles of the neck by performing a “corset platysmaplasty.” Liposuction is also typically performed during this part of the procedure. Excess skin is then trimmed away, and the deep tissues and neck skin are repositioned to produce a sleek, defined neck contour. A small drain may be placed to allow postoperative fluids to drain, and then the incisions are closed.

Recovery from a neck lift is very straightforward, and recovery time depends on the extent of the procedure performed. Pain is typically very well controlled using oral prescription pain medications. You will see Doctor Petrungaro in his office within 1-2 days after your procedure to make sure you are feeling well and that you are progressing nicely.
During your recovery period your face and neck may gently wrapped to help reduce swelling and bruising. It is important to keep your head elevated, refrain from bending or twisting your neck, and avoid all strenuous activity until cleared by Doctor Petrungaro.
You can shower within 24-48 hours. Depending on the extent of the procedure, you will need to take up to one week off work. You can typically resume most physical activity after 4-6 weeks.
